Original Canadian Pacific Railway silkscreen 1936
Original Canadian Pacific Railway silkscreen 1936. This rare work of art is still in its original wooden frame. The locomotive - Chinook 3001 - was a streamlined 4-4-4 Jubilee F2A class locomotive, intended for high-speed passenger service between Calgary and Edmonton. The train went into service in 1936 and ran until 1954. While fast, the Jubilee locomotives could not pull heavy weight, and the 3001 was briefly relocated to a southern line during the war, as heavier locomotives were required for the passenger load during this time. More information on the Jubilee F2A class locomotives can be found here
Artwork by Norman Fraser, who rarely signed the work by his full name, and often not at all. However Fraser's full name is visible in the bottom right of the image. Original wooden frame.
